Reading Hospital (Reading Health System): The hospital conducts volunteer service programs for students who are 15 years old or have completed 8th grade. Student Conservation Association (SCA): The Student Conservation Association offers high school students (ages 15 -19) tuition-free summer volunteer opportunities. On an SCA Conservation Crew, participants discover the great outdoors, team work and leadership skills, and the depth of their own potential. In cooperation with the National Park Service, US Forest Service and other partners, SCA crews protect our public lands while gaining strength, confidence, and character. Diakon Hospice Saint John: Volunteers assist in providing necessary care and compassion to individuals and families receiving hospice care or can assist with office work. You can obtain information by contacting the Volunteer Coordinator at 610-320-7980.
Diakon Volunteer Home Care: This is an outreach program to assist individual in need in the community. Volunteers assist with shopping, meal preparation, household and outdoor chores, transportation, etc. You can obtain information by contacting the Program Manager, Lee Bach at 610-682-1448.

Here's an ideal scenario: You completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), received your SAR (Student Aid Report) and think your child's first-choice college will send a letter of acceptance! There's just one problem — you're not sure you have enough money to finance that dream education. Understanding the financial aid process can be hard, and you may not know where to turn for answers. 4. How do I report my ACT or SAT score to prospective colleges?
As part of the registration process you will be able to send your scores to a certain number of colleges and universities. Please be certain to utilize these free score reports. There is a cost for report scores to colleges at a later time.
5. Can I have the high school report my ACT or SAT scores to colleges and universities?
In some situations colleges and universities will accept a copy of your ACT or SAT scores from the high school. However, an increasing number of schools will only accept scores reported directly from the ACT or SAT. Therefore, it is important to utilize the free score reporting when you register for the tests.
6. What about practice tests?
The High School administers the ACT’s Plan test to all tenth graders as part of our achievement testing program. The Plan test is ACT’s practice test.
The PSAT is the SAT practice test and it also serves at the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The High School administers the test to juniors each October and includes sophomores who request to take the exam. There is a fee to take the PSAT.
Both the ACT and SAT have free practice questions and practice tests on their web sites. In addition, there are official online courses on both of the web sites.
7. What do I do if I need testing accommodations?
The Counseling Office and the special education teachers are ready to assist students in applying for testing accommodations. The process for applying for accommodations should be a topic of discussion during a student’s tenth grade IEP meeting. Information and application materials are available on the ACT web site by clicking on the “students with disabilities” link on the left hand side of the page. Information and application materials can be found on the SAT website by typing testing accommodations into the search box on the web page.17, 2013

Camp Cadet: This is a one week police oriented summer camp for students from age 12 through 15. The program is conducted by State Police Troop L and the Municipal Police of Berks, Schuylkill andLebanon counties. The purpose of the camp is to provide youth with a positive growth experience within the framework of a “mini” police academy structure. Applications can be obtained from the Counseling Office and must be submitted around the end of April.
Camp Lebow: Held at Drexel University's LeBow College of Business, Camp LeBow offers an introduction to business education through exceptional summer programs designed for outstanding high school students with an interest in business. Camp LeBow offers the opportunity to maximize and develop the business and leadership skills sought after by employers and college admissions officers.
