Leadership Development Opportunities

Camp Neidig, Rotary's Youth Leadership Camp: Is a leadership camp that brings together talented high school students for a four-day weekend of fun, friendship, and team-building activities.. Campers will interact with guest speakers from various professional backgrounds who will discuss what it means to be a good leader. They will also participate in various problem solving activities that can be both physically and mentally challenging. Every activity we do throughout the weekend is designed to help campers develop their leadership and teamwork abilities. The program is open to high school juniors living within Rotary District 7430 and students are sponsored by local Rotary Clubs. For more information go to www.campneidig.com

Dale Carnegie Leadership Course: Junior Achievement of Greater Reading and LehighValleyoffers this course free of charge to high school students. The course helps students develop public speaking skills, increase interpersonal skills and increase self-esteem and self-confidence. Students meet on Saturday mornings at AlverniaCollegefor eight weeks beginning in January. Information can be found at the JA web site (www.jaberks.org) and applications are available in the Counseling office in the fall.

Earn & Learn: The Earn & Learn program is open to juniors and seniors and is sponsored by Council on Chemical Abuse. It is a peer education program where students learn to present drug-free messages to elementary school students. The program allows students to develop life skills, learn more about potential teaching/leadership careers, participate in a college-level class and contribute a valuable community services. Students completing the program earn three college credits. Hamilton Award & Hamilton Leaders Academy: The purpose of the Award is to recognize high school students for their academic, personal, and service achievements and to select students for the Hamilton Leaders Academy – a no student cost program that helps students get into college, transition to college, succeed while in college and transition to the post college world. A Hamilton Award Winner is a college boundhigh school junior with a strong record of community service. They show a strong commitment to their academic studies and are a self starter and has proven this through activities. They have Shown passion and commitment to their interests and have a financial and/or personal need. Hamilton Friends serves students from low-income households. Rotary Youth Exchages: Through Rotary International the Kutztown Rotary Club sponsors student participation in both short and long-term exchange progams. Rotary’s Exchange Programs presents opportunities for students to advance their knowledge and world understanding by allowing them to visit a different country. State Police Youth Week: This is a one week summer program sponsored by the American Legion (PA) and the PA State Police. Students must have completed their sophomore or junior year. Students participate in a wide variety of instruction sessions with Local, State and Federal Law Enforcement agencies. Topics include the crime and vehicle codes, forensic science, radar, riot control, and tactical drug operation through the use of specially trained dogs, weapon firing and other police related skills.


The Freedom Alliance Military Leadership Academy: The Academy’s Objectives are:
  1. Introduce students to theUnited Statesmilitary, its way of life and method of developing leaders.
  2. Inspire students to become leaders through interaction with military personnel.
  3. Teach students leadership principles based on the Academy's Core Values.
  4. Reinforce what the students have learned through practical, hands-on leadership building exercises.
  5. Challenge students to develop and use their leadership skills to benefit their local communities and nation.
